Understanding Military Culture
Clinical Considerations for Working With Veterans and Military-Connected Families
Available spots
Service Description
This 3.0-hour continuing education training gives clinicians a working understanding of military culture, values, and common transition stressors, so they can build rapport and provide more informed, effective care with veterans, service members, and military-connected families. Drawing on both clinical practice and lived military experience, this course covers the structures, language, and unwritten norms of military life, common sources of stress during service and reintegration, and how these dynamics show up in the therapy room, often in ways that go unrecognized by clinicians without military-connected experience. Learning Objectives By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 1. Describe core elements of military culture and how they shape client identity, communication, and help-seeking behavior. 2. Identify common transition stressors for veterans and military-connected families, including reintegration and relational strain. 3. Apply culturally-responsive assessment approaches when working with service members, veterans, and their families. 4. Recognize referral points and resources specific to the military and veteran community.
